Late 915 in a '71 - axle considerations?
I am dropping a 915 from a Carrera into a 71E roller and am curious if I need to make special accommodations for the axles. The roller still has axles on it and was previously running a 915, but I believe it was an earlier 915. I have heard that I will need to make some changes in the axles to one end of the axles so I am looking to confirm this is true and learn more.
If special axles are needed, can anyone recommend and good sources? Thanks - Farrell

I put a 915 in my '71T and all I had to do is banging some dents in the tunnel, to make space for the 915. I changed the axle stubs, and I still have the steel banana arms.
I have the alu arms sitting, still another project, to change them. Hope this helps.

there is a thread from last week re: cv axles which links to a wealth of info about the different flanges used on the trans over the years. there were many variations over the years.
if you are keeping the old style clutch cable set up (without omega helper spring) it uses a shorter rod for the clutch release arm than the later 915s. If you need one, I have one which I'd sell real cheap.

Hi Farrell
You have to go with either the 4+2pins or the 6 hole versions - you can't mix and match CV ends as the shaft spline counts are different. As suggested, the easiest way is to stick with the later gearbox shafts and just change the drive flange at the rear wheel to a 6 bolt (SC/Carrera). Changing the gearbox drive flanges can be trickier because of the different spline counts in various differentials. Cheers
