Replacing oil line from 911 engine with Aeroquip
 
Hi all,

I was cruising the technical articles just now and noticed that sombody had replaced the engine oil line on a 911 with Aeroquip type fittings and braided stainless steel lines.

I am backdating my exhaust system, so I need to replace my oil lines and would like to do them this way instead of going with the factory setup (I need to mate a SC engine to a '72 oil tank setup).

Can anybody share more information about this with me? For example: What size braided lines are used (AN-12?)? Where can I buy the adapter fitting between the engine case threads and the AN fitting?

I have done this, and now undone it and relocated the oil tank to the front, but... you need to get the adapters from a comapany called CAT Inc.

You need to get the adapters for the engine case and the oil tank, and yes most people run AN-12, unless you relocate the oiltank to the front, then you need AN-16 for the pressure side and AN-20 for the scavange side. Plus you can also consider Earls hose ends....

At least use the factory supply line to the pump, #33 in the pic

You want to use -12 or larger, -10 is ~9/16 ID, -12 is ~11/16 ID, -16 is ~7/8" ID

I would advise AN-16 or AN-20. AN-12 is essentailly only .5" which is way to small for the volume of oil needed to pass through.

Anyone have a #33 for sale? The one on my '72 had the oil line swaged directly to it (and it went with the engine). I need one of the ones with a removable (threaded) fitting on the end.

Wow, what a great resource BAT, Inc is. They even have a free downloadable guide "Oil Cooling for Porsche". They have everything necessary and some great information too. Thanks!!!

If I read it correctly they recommend AN-12 unless it is for all out racing, a highly modified engine or a turbo (then they suggest AN-16 or AN-20).

This crossed my mind also when I saw that a Carrera upgraded oil cooler kit was over $1000. I thought of getting an aircraft style oil cooler and plumbing it with AN braided line & fittings.
