D/S Lock. Attempted break in vandalism
How to start the year off wrongly !
Yesterday I went to get my 911 from the 'secure' garage where I park the car and pay $$$ for the privilege and found that my D/S door lock had been ripped open. Part of the barrel of my D/S lock was on the floor. I had some difficulty getting the car unlocked, and now it will not lock. But I can lock it from the inside Whats next ? I assume I need new locks on both sides or can the lock barrel be swapped over ? http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1357140886.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1357140938.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1357140965.jpg My car has the classic mid eighties alarm system on it so I assume sensors are on the locks. (The alarm was not on at the time of the break in) |
Sorry to hear this. To answer the question yes the barrel can be changed out. Hope the new year brings better things than this.

You could even DIY. You need a lock barrel that is not yet keyed. You insert your key and grind it smooth, then install from the inside. Removing the door handle is a bit awkward/frustrating and you need the right tools, but it can be done. This thread covers removing te handle and lock:

Many newer cars automatically drop the power window when the drivers door cylinder is disabled. I know it works for Lexus, I think it also works for benz & bmw, not sure about newer porsche. Was at a function with my brother, and his car, along with about a dozen others, were broken into this way. Some cars were driven away with the valet keys that people leave in the glovebox.
Do they have security tapes, and were other cars broken into? |
Thanks for the thread link
I am in the midst of a lot of work on the car and TBH i dont see why I should do this too. I really want this done on the parking garage insurance at the shop of my choice. Probably wont happen tho >:~ The thing I really dont want is to have a starter key and a locking key so the re grind looks like the only option unless the parking garages insurance pays for new starter lock barrel. They attempted to break into a few other cars. Yes the place have security tapes. (But also has two guys and is not cheap. TBH I'm pretty pissed) |
