Clear glass headlight lenses?

Hi all,
I know there are clear plastic and polycarbonate replacement headlight lenses for racing, but does anyone make clear glass ones? Thanks in advance.

For which headlamp assembly are you referring to, Jeff?

Hella still makes the clear OEM lenses for the '65 thru '67 911 assemlies, just as for the closely-related VW '49 thru '66 cars, and '49 thru '65 356 lamps!

Warren,
I'm looking for ones that would replace the H4 ones on my '72 (I'm pretty sure they're H4s...will double check) car...planning to do some upgrading to the lighting for the long trip to the west coast. Thanks

Jeff,

If your '72 headlamps have two adjustment screws ... they are H4s, four would make them H1s.

Bosch still makes replacement glass lenses for both, and Pelican carries them! Real important to use the correct lens, or some strange beam pattern will result! You can't depend on just what is in there, now! Several Pelicanheads have reported the wrong lens on their Bosch headlamp assembly!

Warren,
Yeah, I'm pretty sure they're H4s...one adjustment screw on top, one on the side. What I'm trying to do is actually fit a projector inside, which means I would need a clear replacement. It doesn't necessarily need to be glass, but I'll pay the $120 for plastic ones only if cheaper glass ones aren't available. Thanks!

Jeff,

Now that I have a clue what you are up to ... the clear lenses from these headlamps will fit perfectly:

Thanks Warren! Would these fit right where the H4 lense used to, and still look the same? Basically I could keep the rest of the assembly, right? Thanks again!

Warren,
would the lenses you posted the link of fit in place of H5 lenses? I just realized that's what I've got instead of H4s. Would the headlight still look relatively the same? Thanks!

you gotta set it up so you don't over drive your headlights, unless you stay in a herd of cars. A 40lb gator sneaks up real fast at 75mph-90mph on unlit roads. Non-DOT Hella are relatively cheap. Big bulbs and relays are bonus coupons. Good lighting is less stressful after driving for 10-15hrs. You gotta do everything to enlarge that window of peace and safety.

Jeff,

Since I've never had an H5 assembly apart, I don't know!

I do happen to have a '66 VW Hella lens sitting on the shelf in the garage, I can post measurements and take a pic for comparison!

Later, alligator!

What type of projector light will you use? Sounds like a cool project.

I admit, my H4s light the road quite nicely. the Cibie through-grill lights are so bright I can't see oncoming cars until I phyiscally see their headlights. Makes for fun back roads in the dark.

Thanks for the responses, guys!

Warren, yes, please do! I assume the H5 would be "similar" to the H4 lense as far as size and dimensions go, as they both fit in the same spot... All I really need is for the glass to be clear, unless someone knows of a cheaper alternative than $120 race lens.

Ron - thanks for the suggestions...I was thinking Hella 550 driving lamps, but now I've got a better (albeit more $$$) idea.

Jamie - When I used to have H4's on my '76 with PIAA super whites, they did an outstanding job. I'm thinking either BMW 5 series or Audi projectors...uh...Bi-xenon projectors Hence the need for clear lenses.

100w lows are doable because the 911 is low to the ground.

Jeff,

The 'loose' lens is from a 1963 Beetle convertible ... the complete assembly is from a USA '67 911S ... same lens part number, both made by Hella! The lens oval is identical in size to Bosch H1 and H4 lenses, and the same sealing rubber ring is is used on all of the above assemblies, again, made by Hella!

The long axis of the ellipse is 9-9/32" ... short axis is 8-3/8" ...
