Red face Oh jeez what have I done! Need help on ruined fuel line

Oh someone please tell me I haven’t screwed something up big time. In changing the fuel filter on my 79SC, I seem to have messed-up the fuel line the comes through the fire wall and into the top of the fuel filter. (Maybe a blessing in disguise since if it had let go under way with hot headers, I would have made Hailey’s Comet look like a sparkler.)

It is leaking like a sieve under the soft rubber outer cover where it attaches to the fitting at the top of the filter. Is there any way to cut out the bad section and replace it with new, or do I have to replace it all the way to the tank?

Is replacing the line a big deal?

I am supposed to hit the road for a 6000 mi road trip in the baby in less than 48 hours. Someone help please!

You better find a hydraulic hose repair shop fast then. You don't want even a chance of leakage. Our systems can generate almost 100 psi of pressure. Which will come out in a very fine mist, wish is perfect for combustion (ie. Kaboom) if it comes into contact with an ignition source.

Were you changing the fuel filter or the fuel accumulator? I'm not too familar with SC's but I believe the fuel line attached to the filter goes over to the fuel distributor on the CIS system or to a rigid fuel line that leads to the fuel distributor, not to the fuel tank. The line on the accumulator should go to the fuel pump up front and then to the tank. This fuel line you damaged is likely black nylon plastic under that soft outer rubber like sheath; IMO it could only be repaired if you could find a metal splice fitting with the right type end barbs and you had the right installation tool. If the damage is too close to the fuel filter fitting even this type of repair won't be feasible. It would be far better to get a new fuel line. Call Pelican first thing in the morning and see if they have one and can overnight it to you. Ask for the seals, if any, that go on the end attached to the fuel distributor or fuel line to the distributor. Good luck, Jim

I was changing the filter.

Makaio, you're right, that stuff under some serious pressure and flow and really squirts out!
