wiper speed control-1976
 

Happy New year to everyone! I have a new to me 76 that I am getting to know as I fix about two dozen little items. There is a rotary switch and potientometer that is supposed to control wiper interval speed, but dosen't work. I tried a used spare-no go. The electrical diagram shows a relay in the circuit. Where is the relay located? Thanks.

I know there's a wiper relay in the usual place behind the fuse box cover in the luggage compartment, but I think that one's for the wipers, themselves. I've heard a click behind the instrument cluster when mine are operating on intermittent, so my guess is that it's back there. If you were unaware, you can just wiggle out all the gauges and it gives you access to that area of the car.

I'm not one to pass along dubious information like what I just gave above, but I did so because I wanted to tell the whole story of my experience. Here's the rest of the tail...

My intermittent knob didn't work for the first 15 years I owned my car! Nor did the wiper 'reset' that repositions the blades to the down-left position. I recently found the issue to be in the wiper switch (arm). All it took was some manipulation and bending of the contacts in the switch and both issues were fixed.

FYI. The main wiper switch must be off in order for the rheostat embedded on/off switch/interval timer to work.

Thanks for your answers. I found it on PET-it is called a pulse sender, pn 91161814901 and it is a small black box with a bunch of male terminals. It is held in place with a screw on the PET diagram. Where is the darn thing?? It must be somewhere behind the instruments??

On my '84, it's behind the dash. You might be able to access it if you remove the clock. Otherwise you need to go in through the trunk and remove the ventilation ducting to see it under the wiper linkage.
