bad luck with mahle

Man am I pissed off, I had it all planned, the engine is almost ready to go into the car this weekend. I already had visions of cruising with the roof off bur now was informed by my supplier that Mahle produced a bad batch of pistons. Apparantly they can fail causing a lot of engine damage.

Although glad to hear it now in stead of having engine damage, I am not looking forward to again dismanteling.

just had to vent.

How do you know you got one of the bad ones? Did they issue some kind of set of numbers so you know you have one. If not, what was % that was bad, and figure it all out before you give up hope. I'd get some more details before dismantling. Unless, of course, you get to send them back ...that would REALLY suck either way though.

And what's 'bad' about them?

They sent me the message below. As I am on holiday currently I have not contacted them directly. I translate it as follows: Mahle has a found errors in the production of 2.2S P and Cs, which causes a defect in in the Piston skirt which in turn can lead to a broken piston and following problems...

I will post specifics after this weekend.

Sehr geehrter Herr Stey,

Peter and David - stay off the roads this weekend! I'm in Amsterdam on Business and over the weekend I'm going to drive down through Maastrict to Luxembourg, then up to around Brugge and back over into Amsterdam before I go home on Monday. Cheers!

Mine is in the shop Don, so no worries there, no worries for you that is, because I'm starting to get the feeling this repair will be mighty costly

Have fun in Amsterdam, weather this weekend will not be that good... rain I'm afraid.

Yes, but the weather in the first half of this week was spectacular. Fortunately, the 10PM sunset allows you to enjoy a bit of the day after long hours in the office. It really pi$$ed rain this AM though...

I just won't rent a cabrio this time.

Cheers,

Don
