Chain tensioner noise

I had a total engine rebuild done on my 83 sc in 2007. Car has hydraulic tensioners.
Took the car to a different shop last week to find the cause of a ticking noise heard only when the engine was cold. Found out that the mechanic who did the rebuild did not remove the retaining pin from the left tensioner. The pin was bent.
Shows the sturdiness of these engines.

Thats a good news, bad news story. Annoying, but good that its sorted now.

Jeez, what was the result? Replace tensioner, or simply remove pin?

Glad you found the issue though.

i drove almost 300 miles on a tensioner that had completely collapsed. as long as you are easy on and off the gas, your OK. most of mine was hiway driving.

You're right about the bad news, good news story.

Tensioner was replaced.

I was still driving that car pretty hard when the engine got hot. The noise was only heard when the engine was cold. After 10 minutes of driving, the noise would be gone. Tough engines.
