Relay identification mystery -- What are each of these relays?
Ok fellow Pelicans, please help me identify the relays in the below photos. #1-3 are behind the fuel/oil gauge. #4 is next to the fuse box. Car is 82SC.
#1 - Is this what is referred to as the "clock relay" in the factory manual? #2 - No idea what this one is #3 - I think this socket is where the buzzer relay once went (not sure, it was gone when I got the car) #4 - No idea what this one is ![]() ![]() None of these relays have Porsche part numbers on them that I can see, just Bosch or Hella standard numbers. Thanks!!

#2 is your turn signal/emergency flasher relay.

Agree on #2. I believe that #1 is the rev limiter relay (9116713600 , $$$). Not sure about #3.
The relay located near the fuse panel is definitely not stock, could be that someone installed a relay for your headlights (since there is only 1, I would assume just for the high beams). This is a common and highly suggested upgrade to avoid burning out the expensive headlight switch. You'll have to trace the wire connections to that relay to find out. If you post info on the color of the wires running to that relay, someone here may be able to help guide you.

Looked at the wiring for relay #4, it jumpers into the fresh air blower/rear defogger relay, then on to tie into the factory harness outboard of the brake booster. The car has the factory heated windshield option, wondering if it goes to that?? It also used to have an alarm, could have been a flasher relay....will do some checking w/ my DVM to see where it's hot.

Please keep my education going, I was unaware that a heated windshield was even an option on SCs.

I was able to verify that #1 is the Rev Limiter relay. This unit was on USA SC's only (not ROW) and is jumpered between the Tach and the fuel pump relay to cut off the fuel pump above 7000RPMs.
Still not sure on the #4 mystery relay. I thought it may have been an alarm left over (I thought I had removed it all), but it appears to go to the rear defrost which is a switched power circuit, so does not make sense for the alarm. Still looking....
