Is $1600 reasonable to reskin two leather seats?

I found a local upholsterer who does excellent work, understands how the seats go together and seems to have experience doing Porsche seats. He says he will order the covers from GAHH for $1300 and the labor for both seats will come out to $300.

Does that sound like a reasonable price?

Also, I am considering having him just do the drivers seat and redying and fixing the stitching on the passenger seat. I am not sure what the price differences would be but assume it would be more than half the cost.

Any insights to doing one seat?

$1,600 sounds reasonable. If it was me I would go with this option.

Your second option sounds good but make sure he can make them look the same.
Something to think about... Obviously the leather would be different on the new cover and therefore wear differently to the passenger seat.
Might not look so good in a few years.

I.m getting ready to attack the same thing, later this year. I've seen $1K per seat...so your estimates look good, assuming they DO Porsches. Without question, both seats will need it, so as to match perfectly,..and THAT should be quite close to the interior (I would hope).

BEST!

You may want to spring for the proper foam piece on the driver's seat bottom. 911 521 385 02 (double check if you pull the trigger)

I think the $1,600 price is fair for leather.

Bob,

They make replacement foam pieces? My 81 911SC has leather seats which are in pretty decent condition, but the foam is crumbling. I see small pieces of old foam every time I clean my interior. I assumed that a shop can just cut a new piece of foam to fit the skins. But if they actually make a factory replacement foam piece, I think I'd rather just have them install these instead.

For that kind of money I would want to get 2-3 estimates. I don't recall what I paid about 5 years ago but it was less.

If he's getting the leather from GAHH, you won't get a much lower quote than $1600, installed.

The leather from GAHH is very good, but very expensive. Like he said, that's $1300 of the $1600 right there.

The installer doing two seats for $1600 parts and labor isn't getting rich doing that.

sounds reasonable. Check out World Upholstery web site for price of just the leather. Labor on top and this amount sounds fair assuming they do a great job.

World Upholstery sells foam replacement seats and backs, too.

With a hog ring plyers you can do the seats yourself in one weekend if you are handy.

Just did two front seats on one of the Jags and it was about this price. With good leather and professional installation, its not cheap.

It's only money...you can always make more. Go with the $1600 and don't look back.

Thanks for the feedback; it sounds like the price is about right and GAHH is a quality product. I'm usually not afraid to do take on projects myself, but upholstery done right is a pain in the a$$. It's going to cost me roughly the same to order it and install as it will for him to install.

That is a great price. Make sure to get proper foam or it will not work out well.

I just had mine done, with seat leather from our sponsor, + $500 for labor to include properly foaming the seats.

Make sure that the foam is built back up, or spring for new foam is yours is futzed.

Is the GAHH that much better than World Upholstery? I notice World Upholstery is $333 less for a pair of leather seats covers ($1050.00 pr. versus $1,383.00 pr.)

Request samples from each and decide that way.
