There was only one year for the RS model, and that was 1973! The'true' Carrera 2.7 with the MFI 911/83 engine was available in markets other than the USA from '74 thru '76 ... with and without rear spoilers. Is the Carrera 2.7 (such as Matt Holcomb's) what you are referring to?

HUH? RS in '73 only?? What about the '74 3.0 RS? There were 109 cars built with 3.0 MFI, twin plug and 230HP (of which about 36 RSR 3.0). The body was wide, being the forebar to the 3.0 Turbo of '76.

George,
I am well aware of the RS 3.0, but it wasn't a true production car, with more that 50 of them being delivered as RSR customer race cars. Less than 60 of the 'street' 911/77 engines with regular single ignition were built, and from rumors ... the factory had trouble selling/unloading the street cars because of the $25,000+ price tag. Parts for the RS 3.0 engine are practically unobtainable, especially the space cam for the injection pump, and NONE of the information on the car or engine ever made it into the service manuals or spec books, at least NOT the English version! The first fifteen actually didn't match anything else in specification, having been contracted to Roger Penske as IROC cars ... 'street' bodies (previous years' RSR) and wheels, with everything else being early RSR spec, including the 315 hp version of the engine with high butterfly injection! As delivered in California, they had ducktails, later changed to the long RSR whaletails before the races. In fact, they were actually '73 RSRs with the later fiberglass bumpers and hood changed, and the first, early 3.0 RSR engines. ------------------ Warren Hall 1973 911S Targa 1992 Dodge Dakota 5.2 4X4 parts hauler |

PWM74 - If you have a copy of the December 2000 Excellence, take a look at the top photo on page 138, it's one possibility. Others which might give you some ideas are on pages 81 to 86 of the April, 1998 issue of Excellence. Also you might check here at Pelican, on the 911 Photo Gallery. Click on the LA Vintage G.P., page 3, the photo of Bodoh's car. It's possible that none of these references is 100% correct (whatever that means), but they may give you some ideas. Hope this helps.

Hello
First IROC year was (IMHO) still the greatest. Best international drivers and still a speed record untill today. Following Camaros whern´t much faster but easier to handle. I think James Hunt was to bored to drive more then one race. Grüsse |

Check our Patrick Paternie's new book "Porsche 911" for a pic of a silver 73 RS in silver with black script (no 73 RS came in silver, but this car was repainted to silver the following year at the factory).
By the way, George K's rection was the same one as mine - the '74 3.0 RS is a real model, and the body at least could be replicated easily, just need to find the right tail. Randy W |

Just wondering, since the 3.0RS parts like the space cam are unobtainable, is there something like a "regrind" on other space cams that would work, or is it just impossible?
