1988 Carrera HP ?
Hi guys.
Here's a quickie : what would be the power of a stock US market 3,2 L 1988 Carrera ? I believe it is 217 hp but just want to make sure. Thanks

A search will turn up a few threads with LOTS of data and LOTS of discussion on HP, torque, and the like.

Little side note, California cars are a bit lower, but this is easily remedied by disconnecting the little wire for CA emission control. I think its a 5-10 HP difference.

I always thought the '87 to '89 3.2L had 214 HP or 7 HP more than the '84 to '86 3.2L which has 207 HP. Does anyone know what makes the difference from '86 to '87? I believe the compression ratio is the same.

How do you tell the difference between US and ROW engine? Mine is a factory new, no numbers block. Car is Californianized with cat. Aside from compression and heads, what else points it out either way?

IIRC the euro cars did not have a catalytic converter or O2 sensor. -J

I believe the horsepower increase stemmed from a change in the chip mapping

Thanks guys.
I was asking because there's a lot of US 911 on the used market in Montreal, but for what I understand, these are less powerful than Canadian one, which I believe have 231 hp.

The Canadian and American cars are the same (217hp). There is no difference in power as they are considered North American. The speedo/odo is different in Canada, but otherwise they're the same. Another little difference which is easy to spot is our North American cars do not have side marker lights on the front fenders, where the ROW cars do.

To Hendog : well thank you for this precision. I was under the impression that US 911 were less powerful than Canadian 911.

Yeah, that much I know. Those are exterior bolt on bits added for CA law. I was wondering if it's possible to determine otherwise? No I.D. numbers to speak of, just standard part numbers. Thanks
