My 66 refresh

Hello fellow Pelicans! I would like to share my recent long hood project! I took on this task with no real direction or expectations except to further educate myself about these wonderful cars. I would also like to thank the community for their support and knowledge. While I do not post much, I lurk alot and educate myself using the search function.

-Adam C

5/15/12 After searching a couple months for a air cooled project to add to the stable, I purchased this car from a local friend who had the intentions of fixing it but simply could not find the time.

6/28/12

7/1/12. While some people may be turned off by a car that was hit, this was simply no more than a front pan replacement with out the rust

7/15/12 Purists, I know a painted dash is not correct for the year, but I feel it just looks so cool! At this point, after much deliberation with myself, I made the decision to not go with the polo red the car was born with but golf blue. I am still not sure why the same color is called golf blue in 66 and gulf blue in 67? Perhaps a typo?

8/8/12 I sourced a wooden wheel to compliment the dash and a radio delete plate. I figured the driving experience should be enough excitement!

11/10/12. The slanted script is not correct for 66, but with the painted dash & color change, what the heck!

10/17/12 Here she is done with my dd 964. I also threw in a shot of her stable mate targa

WOW. Beautiful work. I have a question, I was told my car is a 66. The ownership says 66, but it has the battery boxes on both sides. Did your car have the boxes also? Did you remove them?

Thank you gentlemen!

Pureham, there was only one battery box (or tie down) on the drivers side of the car. I'm not sure if this was original or not.

Felipe, anytime, this is what we love to do!

What do you mean slanted script is not right for a 66. Mine has the slanted script. Engine hood and glovebox

Looks great.

The slanted script is correct for '66. It changed in '67.

I am relatively certain that twin battery boxes debuted in 1969. I know 68 912's don't have them.

Nick, you did a beautiful job with that sc!

From the information I could gather 65 & early 66 had the slant script. This car was a later 66 with the block letters. The holes in the lid were welded up and I used a transferable adhesive sheet to adhere the emblems after I shaved the nubs off.

Adam,

Nice work, the car looks great.

Is that your shop you did all the work in? Just wondering, I am not that far from you.

Thank you for compliments!

lsf, it is a family business started by my father in 83. We are on Park Ave in Worcester. Where in MA are you from? I am always looking to meet fellow Pelicans! I feel like all the local Porsche people are hiding sometimes!
