78-83 911sc performance ?'s

Not to be shallow or come off like a redneck but what kinda 1/4 times does the 911 offer. whats the curb weight , hp, and top speed. I know the porsches attributes can't be measured in a straight line but I'd like to know.
thanks

This is the performance section of a road test from the August 1980 issue of "Car and Driver"

The whole article, in a 1.7MB Adobe Acrobat file can be found Here.

I would like to give credit to the person who scanned it, but I found it on the web somewhere, and can't remember where.

Hope this helps,
Tom

Hi Catfishez, I've got a few books published by Brooklands which are the origional magazine reviews done by the mag's back in the seventies/eighties. One is titled something like "The Porsche 911SC 1978 to 1983", I've also got the '73 to '77 book. It's interesting what they thought of the cars back then, "horizon grabbing acceleration" etc.

Some of the test were done in brand new cars not yet run in - so slow. Also some where done with luggage and a passenger. So wildly different results to a good test driver with a quarter tank of gas and 6,000rpm on the dial.

PP may sell te books or maybe your local book shop. Bill '79SC.

And yet more images!

Hope you don't mind a little more info!
The images shown below were included in the documentation provided when the car was purchased in 1978. I also have the original showroom brochure.
Note: The images will have to be uploaded as seperate replies due to size. I did not include the documents cover page in order to save a few MB on Wayne's Server

I like how the Car & Driver test has 0-60mph at 6.0 seconds
and then Road & Track has 0-60mph at 7.0 seconds.
What's up with that?
Whole lot of difference there....

And the Porsche literature shows it as being 7 seconds from
0-62 (or... 0 - 100km)

I passed some cars a couple of days ago who were playing games with one another and I wanted to put some distance between. As some of you know, I upgraded my cams and am now using backdated exhaust, so this car is perhaps a little stronger than stock. After getting a couple of hundred yards ahead of them, I looked down and was a bit surprized to see an indicated 120 mph. Someone once said I might have a hard time achieving the car's mathematical top speed. That I would run out of power and be unable to get to red line in 5th gear. I and others doubted this pessimism and I REALLY doubt it now. That was just over 5000 rpm, and my rev limiter does not kick in until nearly 7000. The moral of this story is, there is no question, no question whatsoever that this car's top speed is AT LEAST 145 as some of the literature suggests. 130 is laughable.

And there has never been a question in my mind that this car can get to 62 mph in WAY less than 7 seconds. BTW, some car magazines are willing to punish the cars to find an absolute fastest possible 0-60 time, while other magazines are not willing to flog a car like that. If these cars' trannies would shift smoothly and quickly, their times would be a second or two better. Shifting is a bit balky. 62 mph happens in second gear, so there is only one shift. Hope this helps.

Looking at the gearing chart in my owners manual, 6500RPM in 5th is about 150, and 7000RPM is slightly over 160.

The manual also says top speed is 139, at half load.

Agreed. My bone stock 3.0L will EASILY reach 135. Although I've never tried it first hand.
