Pertronix and Timing

Will I need to adjust my timing after installing a Pertronix Igniter II? Timing is good now, and I don't have a timing light to make adjustments but got the Pertronix for Christmas and would like to get it in.

Thanks!

Yes, you should check the timing after installation.......but it will be the last time!

When I installed mine (since removed but that is and was for another post) I had to move my timing basically to the other side of the slot. Advance, retard I do not remember.

Good luck

Ok, guess I'll wait until I can procure or borrow a timing light then!

Thanks for the responses and saving me some frustration!

Pertronix Ignition Timing

I recently installed the Pertronix Ignitor II in my 1970 911 with a Bosch distributor and was plagued with spark problems, all of which boiled down to the distributor being out of time after the installation. The ultimate solution was to connect the timing light's induction coil to the wire coming out of the coil, getting a light flaxh for all plugs instead of just the #1 plug. I was able to get the timing back to Top Dead Center, and then confirm it by switching the timing light's induction coil back to the #1 spark plug wire.

My timing was so far out before this procedure that I was not able to get the timing light's induction coil to pick up the signal off of the #1 wire.

After getting the timing and spark settled, I had to get a fuel flow going through my Weber carbs due to the float valves having become stuck during the prolonged wait for the Ignitor system and my getting time to install it.
