What tyre would you use for 6x15" Fuchs?

The former owner had fitted Dunlop SP Sport 01 in 205/55-15 when I bought my 1975 S in 2005. I need new tires for this season and I am not sure what dimention and tyre to choose...

I used to do some trackdays and I found the Dunlop SP's lacking. Nowadays I mostly use the car on backroads for FUN. I guess I would have to go for a higher profile tyre like 195/60-15 or maybe even the 185/70-15?

195/65 is the most common tire I see used...

205/60 is also a good choice.

I would like to have a tyre with a higher side-wall than the one on the car today. The 50 profile seems to give nice response and precise steering and handling, but I do feel that the gearing is a little short with such a "small" tyre. I have a 5-speed gearbox.

I guess the comfort wille improve as well with higher sice-walls. I also think that maybe a 195-with tyre will fit better on the 6" Fuchs. I also have a set of 7" Cookie Cutters, so I may have 2 set of wheels and different tires if the need arises.

You should give the Avon CR6ZZ a serious look. They come in 185/70 for 6" and 215/60 for 7-8" wheels.

205/60-15's have the approximately the same diameter as the stock sizes which means your speedo will read correctly.

I would go with a nice all season tire for everyday driving. There are a number of All season High Performance tires listed at Tire Rack for this service.

If you have a second set of wheels, look into some Toyo RA-1's or R-888's for track tires. Go with a 205/50-15 for quicker gearing at the expense of top speed.

I have tried to find the Avon tyre here in Norway. There is no official importer...

I am thinking about using the two set of wheels, and you are right one has to to for 50 profile to get a "track-tyre"! The R888 would be very nice!

I wonder if any of you have tried the Dunlop fast-response tyre in 195/65-15? I am really content with the Dunlop SP Sport 01 for road-use. They slide easily but are very controllable at the very broad limit of grip...

From what Dunlop says the fast response tyre is very suited to agressive driving in the corners. Which would suit me fine! This is a picture of my other Porsche at the type of roads that are just some kilometers from my home. The roads are tight, curvy and the blacktop is usually broken and full of bumps and holes... The car is a 1981 924 Carrera GT, the tires on this car is Dunlop Sport Maxx.
