Repair corroded engine block?
Hi guys,
I just stumbled on a 1972 2.4S 911/53 engine block, that someone was scrapping. Since I am a severe "hoarder" , I couldn't let go of it....It has really strange corrosion damage, around the oil pump cover plate. It looks like it might leak, but even if not I want to fix it permanently. I have never seen anything like this before, but apparently the car was parked for 30 years and eventually the water in the oil started to damage the block. Has anyone here seen this before? Can it be repaired? I will try and see if I can get a picture of it.... Regards, Johan

Anything can be repaired...but...do you want to spend the money in doing so?
If the seal area (flange) is pitted so badly that it looks like the gasket will not hold in the oil...it can be welded up and machined back to new configuration. It's a Mag block...so ...special welding required...then re drill and tap the stud holes...and that won't be cheap. Your choice. Bob

Hi,
I think you are right, this will cost some money to fix properly. But then I need a 2.4S engine in my car anyway, so it might be worth the money! ![]() Thoughts? Regards, Johan

Maybe I could make a sleeve for it?
JB might work but it feels a little sloppy.... Johan
