78 911SC Passenger side mirror magnification

Hello,

The passenger side mirror on my '78 seems to be considerably more magnified than the driver's side. Is this normal or has it been replaced at some point with the wrong glass?

Thanks

My 77 has the same magnification (none) on both sides. It sounds like someone replaced the passenger side mirror.

The glass appears to be able to purchased separately:

Yes, you can easily replace the mirror glass, but are you sure you want a flat mirror on the passenger side? Every car I've ever owned came with a convex mirror on the passenger side to increase your field of vision, at the expense of a little distortion (objects in mirror may be closer & all that).

The 911 I recently got had a flat mirror there, which I found pretty much useless, like looking through a keyhole from 3 feet away. It was the first thing to go, replaced with part 911-731-035-12-M100 from our host. Much better. That same part can also be installed on left side as well.

Amen. Flat mirrors on the pass side are useless.

I have done this for my Audis. I like the wider field of view, even though some detail is lost.

I'd do it for my 3.2 in a second.

in the US all cars (when they are first sold) are required to have flat driver and convex passenger mirror. in europe they have convex both sides.
