The Culprit to My SC Starting Issues
http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1358622854.jpg
This failing fuel pump is the culprit. The car always took a few cranks to start, and as the weather got colder the cranking got longer. After driving last night, I bundled my sleepy wife into the Porsche for a trip to the local club breakfast meet-up. And it wouldn't start. After 4 sessions of 10+ seconds cranking, we took the other car. I went down the list of usual suspects, and discovered the fuel pump was at fault. Fortunately the PO had left an old used fuel pump relay (German-made!) in the smuggler's box. I switched the relays and it fired up on the first twitch of the starter. I swapped relays twice to be sure I had the correct solution. So there you have it - if your SC is taking a lot of cranking or not starting at all, check that fuel pump relay! |
That or fuel pressure.....gauges are a good thing with CIS.

Look closely at the fuel pump FUSE and fuse clamp/holder....
Is that relay even used when the starter motor is engaged? |
the start (no pun intended) of a 30+ year old wire harness. expect similar "gremlins" to surface down the road. Good troubleshooting!!
