Hard steering 88 930

I recently bought a decent '88. 930. One issue with the car is that it takes 2 strong arms to make slow speed turns. I bought the car from a non porsche new car dealer and I suspect that they may have tried to adjust something in the steering ,very unsuccessfully. Car is 100% stock and has 72k miles. Thanks in advance for your thoughts on this matter

I guess it depends on your definition of "takes 2 strong arms to make slow speed turns." There is no PS on a 930 so you're at the mercy of the footprint of the front tires. Bigger the tire, bigger the effort.
Once the 930 is rollimg a correct car has extremely proper steering feel.
What size front tires do you have?

Standard factory size tires with standard factory aspect ratio. Maybe you are right ,that would be a blessing. Steering input does seen to normalize with a little speed. A friend said the low speed heft was abnormal but I had just chalked it up to no power steering. But you cannot turn it at slow speeds with one hand ,not comfortably.

If someone has replaced the original steering wheel with a smaller one that will also contribute to the effort required as slow speeds but as Porche mentioned there is no Power Steering and one you get moving the feedback is second to none.

Tire pressure plus castor settings make a big difference on my TurboLook (with 275mm front tires). With my current settings it only takes one hand to turn the wheel but it's still quite an effort. It's too bad retrofitting the 964 power steering is such a big effort, I'd love to have it for the around town driving.

That's pretty normal. If the castor and tire pressures are where they should be, you'll just have to get used to it. Any forward motion at all helps, so just adjust your driving style a little. I drove a 930 for over 25 years and it wasn't an issue for me, or my wife.

big tires up front + the caster, for hi speed stability, make for heavy slow speed steering
