how do i check to see if my coil is sending spark to distributor?my car (1970 911t 2.2 w/webers)i tried pulling the main sparkplug wire leading to the center of the distributr off and held it to a ground with no spark while turning engine over. did i do something stupid when i did this?if i did check this correctly, where do i go now? thanks in advance

i forgot to say it has a permatune ignition if that makes any difference. thanks

Fred,
If your earlier posted pic is correct, I suspect that you have the wrong coil. If you test the primary winding resistance, it should be 0.4 to 0.6 Ohms. The secondary should be 650 to 790 Ohms. When you did your spark test with no load, your coil may have shorted out internally, as the turns ratio of what appears to be a traditional Bosch 'Blue' coil is much higher than the OEM Bosch 0.221.121.001 coil or the similar (new) Perma-Tune coil. The new Perma-Tune or OEM Bosch coils are the ONLY ones which should be used! warren my coil(bosch) has 9220 0810083 .08 printed on it. is this the wrong one for my set up?it also has 0221 119 027 printed on it if this helps. thanks warren
