IDIOT Lights, what's what?

OK Dumb question I know.

There are 3 "idiot lights" in my oil pressure- temp gauge. The middle is oil, the other two I still don't know after owning this car for 5 years. I AM STUPID!!!! Ok the bottom one I am assuming is for the altenator it goes on with the key on and goes out immediately upon starting. The top one has NOTHING connected to it on the rear, no bulb, not even an empty wire terminal. What is this for??????

Here is a pic of the gauge I mean, I am talking about the top light. Mine doesn't have the Generator sign but I am sure it's the same.

The top one on my car is the handbrake light.

My handbrake light is in the middle of the dash above the radio. Maybe it is empty because nothing even goes to mine?

Shawn........I think I remember it being a light for the Sport Matic gear box. Oil level or over heat ? Can't remember where I read it.

I've been looking at mine for 15 yrs. I asked about this a few weeks back. It seems that most pre '77 used this for the Emergency brake light as some have said.

Apparently, the factory had a bunch of these guages left over in '76 and '77 and since they put that little square brake/seatbelt light to the right, they just used these guages 'til they were gone.

Mine has no bulb housing in it either but, I can see where they bridged the old connector with a wire (black and yellow, I think) and ran a jumper from the guage area to the "new" brake/seatbelt light to the right.

I'd like to put it back like the '75s and use the square light for something else like cylinder head temp., but I thnk it takes a non-grounded type of bulb holder for it.

Yup... on my '76, it's the handbrake warning lamp

Heck, on my 1980 I have that top light with no wiring or bulb holder for it.

Perhaps a good place for one of those blinking alarm lights.

Geez !! I guess some buyer overbought if they lasted into '80s. Either that or someone swapt out your guage.

I used that dumb EGR idiot light hole for a Fake Blinking Led anti-theft device. Must work. Never been stolen !

Guys ... it's the BRAKE SYSTEM FAILURE Warning Light, not just the reminder you left your E-brake handle up a couple of notches!!!

On my 69 the top light is the same hand brake light and is constant. On the 71 the light is connected to a flasher relay and flashes at me when the brake is on. Weird
