Muffler Heat Shield
I ran across this while surfing ebay. It caught my eye because I've just finished painting my 911 and was upset that I've got blistering on the rear license panel from the heat of the muffler. I wasn't aware there was a heat shield between the muffler and the rear license panel. Has anyone else seen this?

I too had a problem with paint starting to bubble off the license plate panel. Here's a link to what I did:

Sherwood,
Excellent fix. Looks like I'm off to Home Depot. Thanks

The heat shield in Ron's pic was stock for the 3.2 Carreras.

Ron,
I was having the same problem with my bumper. Sounds like it's a pretty common issue with p-car owners. Who is removing these and why? ![]() I looked up the parts diagram for my bumper and sure enough there was a Heat Shield (6) listed. Of course when I removed my bumper no such part existed. Sounds like Wayne needs to start stocking a new part. ![]() |

It looks like Porsche installed these shields in later cars. Pet does not show any shield for early cars (up to '73). I didn't take the time to see when they started installing them. I thought I had a big problem but it sounds like it's a common problem.

I have measured the temperature on the engine side of my muffler with a thermal strip. It reads about 220ºF (not necessarily muffler surface temperature). Thus, this temperature range bubbles the paint (mine at least).
