Alternator/fanhousing disassebly?

Been trying to search but for some reason I have not found the info I'm looking for. Probably been discussed earlier though...

I just want to know how to remove the fanhousing from the alternator so I can paint the housing...

I ultimately took mine to my local Porsche mechanic to have him remove it via drill press. I tried (and failed) all manners of wooden blocks and heavy mallets before that and didn't get the parts to budge.

I've removed and replaced mine 3 times in the past month so practice makes perfect!
I'm assuming you have the housing with the alternator still inside removed from the car and you want to know know how to remove the alternator from the housing?
Get two blocks of wood that are 3x3 or 4x4 and place them parallel on the ground to the width of the housing and place a towel or some shop rags between the blocks.
Now, holding the housing with both hands with the alternator studs facing up smack one side of the housing on one of the blocks. Repeat smacking the housing after turning the housing a quarter turn so you are working your way around the housing. Eventually the alternator will drop out of the housing, hopefully onto a nice safe landing on your towel or shop rags.
I was surprised how hard you need to smack the housing against the wood but don't do it so hard you crack the housing. Keep at it and it will eventually come out.
Do not give up and try to hammer on the studs to get the alternator loose you will damage the studs.
Cheers
Bill

Thanks! I'll give it a try when I go to the garage the next time. I tried to carefully tap the bolts and came to the conclusion that I only will destroy something if I continue that way...
