I've had the 911 parked in my garage for about a week. It's past due for inspection and I had one or two things to take care of . Anyway I start noticing I've always got one or two really big wasps (The bugs, not the people) flying around my garage. I hate those damn things. So one of todays projects is to find out where the nest is so I wait and watch. Then I see two, they buzz my head and land on the black grill of the SC and go in, and then another. they are nesting between the grill and the AC. Damn,It's been one of those weeks. Off to go start it up and drive it around. Cook the little bast**ds.

Hi Jeff, I'd be inclind towards spraying the buggers with fly spray then sucking them up with a vacume or blower/vac. You don't really want dead wasps all over the engine and in the air cleaner.

Jcon? Are these yellow jackets? If so, you might check out yellow jacket traps, as sold in garden centers...I just hope the nest isn't too large, heavily populated, I mean. Nasty little critters, yeah they are! I almost lost a buddy because of them once, but we got him to the hospital in time...

I don't think starting the car is a good idea ... if (dead OR alive) wasps get ingested by the cooling fan ... they could end up dead on top of your oil cooler or cylinders, or heads, blocking critical airflow!

Best to get them with some fast-acting 'Wasp & Ant Spray' that kills more or less instantly ... then clean up the dead pests with a Shop Vac!

Warren, guess I over reacted, after seeing a buddy barely able to breath. After all, only some people react so severely to wasp/yellow jacket stings. A quick knock down spray may be more effective here. One bit of advice here...wait until after dark, when they are all in the nest. And if you can still find it, look for a product known as WASP FREEZE, available to professional applicators, but nothing "restricted" in it, so legal for a homeowner to use...it contains a strong pesticide combination, using a propane propellant to actually freeze the wasps as it kills. Oh...Warren...I'll NEVER contradict you on electronics...but one of my pre retirement state licenses was Pesticide Consultant...My theory with the trap? Catch all the worker wasps...then suck out the nest, the queen, & the larvae with the shop vac...

when i was 14, i went to work picking tobacco in north carolina. when it was time to put the tobacco in the barn there would always be i huge wasp nest somewhere on the barn that had to be removed before we could load the barn. the old guy that i worker for would go up to the nest, reach out reeeeeeeeal slooooooow and pinch the nest off at the base, some of the wasp would land on his hand but not sting him!! then he would slooooowly set the nest down on the ground and stomp the nest, killing the wasp and one by one swat the ones off of his hand.

i never saw him get stung!!! he made it look easy, so one of the young guys gave it a try one time and just about the time he pinched the nest off, the wasp let him have it!!!

sooo ...... ahhhh ..... i think you should go for a drive and cook them booggers!!

You guys are of course right, and I did spray them instead. I came to my senses when I got to the garage. Although the thought of getting them crispy was very attractive.

Not a very big nest. They were wasps alright-tough little buggers. Now if I can just get it to stop stalling at stoplights.

PWD72s - I know what you mean about yellow jackets. I stepped in a nest a few years back and got stung a few dozen times - about two miles into the woods on a hike in Virginia. They chased me and my buddy forever. They don't quit. That's the day I developed my deep hate for the flying stinging things.
