915 Speedo Cable Connection
So I was undoing the speedometer cable connection to the nose of the transmission when the threads snapped off. Does anyone know if this is repairable, or do I need a new nose cone?

Here is a pic of what I'm referring to. I removed the nose and put it in my vise so it's a little sideways. This is off of a 1972 915 transmission -

I have a replacement nose cover if you want it. It is $115 shipped and I'll include new gasket and seals but you'll need to save the speedo parts from that case, as my case is missing those pieces. E-mail me at jandsaustin1 at verizon.net and I can send you photos.

Bird. It's the word...

Yeah, replace it. It's just too hard to repair magnesium in this area.

Porsche84 - you're sure the cover is for a 72? If so I may be interested.

Yes
The nose piece was the same from 72 to 86. The mechanical speedo was dropped in 75 or 76. So, covers with the speedo machined will fit. The unit I have is missing the speedo gears, but you can move them from your unit. I can send photos Monday if interested Jerry

Sook's 7:31 R/P was excellent. We need to make a Porsche parts pipeline between CA and FL.
LeadRSA 729, I'm e-mailing photos now. Happy Holidays to all Pelicanites

Seem to find my self going down the same path except I haven't snapped the housing..YET. The cable nut is on real tight, I can only get it so far (maybe a 3/4 of a full turn) and then it just stops moving. Ive been hitting it with liquid wrench for the past 3 days hoping it will finally loosen, but not much progress to show for 3 days of spraying and wrenching. I can keep doing what I'm doing, no schedules to worry about, but I don't want to get in the position of snapping the nose, I'd rather cut the cable (if I can) and replace that, probably will need to anyway it looks original to the car which being a 73.5 is now 40 years old.
Wondering what others have gone through just prior to the snapping? Thanks.

Think I found my answer.
Thank you TRE! I'm going to continue soaking and move very slowly. Engine drop defeated by speedometer cable, help!

I think I have one more nose cover with speedo, just in case you need a back up plan. I'd probably heat the threaded collar if it doesn't come with soaking it

Thanks Jerry, good thought on the heat. I was thinking of TRE's suggestion of cutting the nut, but there is so little room to work, not sure I can get heat up into that space. I'm giving it over night and try again in the morning. Going to get some BB Blaster, WD40 is useless and Liquid Wrench is slightly better.
Thanks!

I would cut the nut on the last resort. If you cut that, you'd need to replace the whole speedo cable (I think) and that would be a big job.
