Not at all relevant at all since we are talking about an 1984 Carrera here and not a 996. Two completely different cars. You might as well compare the 1984 Carrera to a Ferrari 355.

Scott

When did the Ferrari 355 become the "new" 911?

By the way, the 964 has no front spoiler either, just a retractable rear one, and I believe it still qualifies as a 911.

However, if I'm not mistaken, 911s did come without front spoilers from the factory as do 996s.

So?

Why do you keep bringing up the 996? It has NOTHING to do with this discussion.

Was the discussion about a '89 - '94 964 or an '84 911?

Don't get upset. We're still talking about 911s and front spoilers aren't we? It just seems that Porsche did not see fit to install them in all their 911s and not all of us seem to be aware of that.

Joe

The thing is, starting with the 964, Porsche made a concerted effort to eliminate lift from the front end without resorting to an add-on spoiler. They did this by reshaping the bumper/valance area and by directing air here and there, where they saw a need. Lift in the rear was reduced using the various retractable spoilers. The later cars do a much better job of reducing lift than even an earlier 911 with spoilers.

Apples and oranges, really.

I notice in the '84 sales brochure that the spoiler-less cars have a small, black, shallow spoiler-like piece under the front. Anyone know for sure what should be there on no-spoiler cars? TIA.

The only real issue for the OP to consider is there will be some highly visible holes to deal with. From my perspective I would find an unmolested valence and swap the whole thing.
