Power source for WUR?
 

I've was checking my fuel pressures this weekend and I noticed that there was no change on a cold engine WUR disconnected and then connected. After this, I put my multi-meter on the harness plug and I'm not getting any voltage until the engine it running. None when the key is turn all the way on but engine off (i.e., same time fuel pump running).

During the whole process, I had repaired/replaced the plug on the harness since it was brittle and wires hanging on by a thread. I also changed the ground location because the former ground was just attached at the base of the WUR. So, I'm thinking that maybe the whole routing of the wires was wrong to begin with.

I'm wondering, when is the WUR "supposed" to be on. Does it ever turn off (ie., after warmup, etc..). Is there a specific spot on the wire area in the engine compartment (area where elect-ignition is) where the WUR gets it's power?

Any advice would be appreciated. I'm collecting info so that I can finish this project this weekend.

You should have 12VDC at the WUR plug when the ignition switch is in the RUN position. Assuming the WUR is OK, if it was unplugged from power the engine would stay in its rich startup (cold)phase indefinately or until it got hot enough from the heat off the engine which I'm not sure that it would. The WUR relies on the bimetal to be in its fully warmed state for the engine to reach its leaned out state.

Bottom line .. you want the WUR to get power once the engine is running .. and warming up.

the power comes from the relay that is in the rear drivers side fuse area.
it appears that it is connected to the voltage regulator that is connected to the alternator, so that when the motor is on the warmup regulator gets power....

Yes check for power and activation power at the relay. I've seen these relays fail often.
