Front torsion bar trouble?

Hi,

Today I noticed my 74 Targa sitting like a crouched duck in the garage. The left front was significantly lower than the right. After reading a previous post about a snapped torsion bar I was afraid that something similar had happened to me.

However, after reading Wayne’s 101 Projects section about ride height adjustments I was able to adjust the car back to normal. The adjustment on the left side was maxed out and hence the lowered left. After adjustment everything is normal again.

I do not measure the ride height and balance every day but I am sure I would have noticed this before. Does this adjustment change over time? I did not change anything else on the suspension which would explain this strange thing. I am confused as to how it has gotten out of alignment. Any ideas?

Thanks,
Ingo

Recently when opening the garage door I was greeted by the exact same sight as you. A very low drivers side front end.

Turned out that the torsion bar had broken near the attachment point.

Mikkel,

My torsion bar was not broken. I could adjust the ride height and everything seems to be fine now. The adjustment was just maxed (all the way loosened)

My question is if this adjustment kreeps over time.

Ingo
