How to remove air handler 911SC?

I am needing to remove my steering column from my 1980 911SC, and I've started disassembling the ventilation box (air handler), so I can access the steering column.
However, after getting the fan out of the way, it is looking to me like I'm going to have to drill some rivets out in order to remove the box. But I can't tell for sure, and don't want to indiscriminately plow into the job.
I need some instructions! SmileWavy
I have searched Pelican's forums, as well as the internet, and don't find any step-by-step instructions on removing the air handler.
I would sure appreciate it if someone could direct me to an appropriate post, or could post instructions here.
Thanks!

What part do you mean by air handler?

you mean the 2 boxes with the flaps and hoses attached to them? they are not riveted and can be removed pretty easily. the are held from below dash with screws, IIRC.

No need to drill out rivets. You are talking about the box that connects the cowl vent to the fan right?? Has "Behr" stamped into the plastic.

It is held in place by two screws under the black screen that is on the cowl, and secured at the bottom only by the drain hose (pulls off easily). Remove the two screws at the top, then rotate it towards the front.

Nick wins the prize at reading my mind! Exactly, Nick.
So I remove the black screen on the cowl, and that gives me access to the screws that attach the air handler (or ventilation box, or whatever it's called - I have seen it referred to in several forums as an air handler, that is why I called it that).
Thanks so much for your help!
Anything else I should know about removing the steering column? :-)
Thanks again!

JR, thanks for your reply. I was out of pocket all evening until now, so wasn't able to respond. Nick has answered my question. Thank you for taking the time to respond!

Schumicat, thanks for taking the time to reply. I didn't describe it very well, but Nick read my mind. I appreciate your willingness to be helpful!

Removing the speed clips that hold the black fiberboard cover over the steering linkage is a PITA. I found a long needle nose working them side to side allowed me to shimmy the clips off without breaking them.
