Battery Group size
Was reading this thread - lots of great info: http://forums.pelicanparts.com/porsche-911-technical-forum/730501-new-battery-why-does-all-work-so-well-3.html
My '88 Carrera has a Miata battery in it, mounted on a piece of plastic. Just not quite right for a variety of reasons... Not interested in a Braille or Odyssey battery - conventional is more my style. But the original battery is a big huge thing. There's got to be a size that works well... Group 48? 34R? Advice appreciated. |
Not sure what's wrong with an Odyssey. They sell two different sizes, the 680 and the 925. I got the PC925T and it's been great.

I stay with that big arse factory one,..keeping my corner balance numbers accordingly.......
BEST! Doyle |
+1...Walmart battery. Group 49.
|
I thought it was Group 44? That is what I have in my '78 SC and it is a perfect fit.

Get a sealed H7 or H8

Craig_D - Nice set up you have. Thank for the pictures. However, am not interested in the $$$ of the Rennline battery mount.
Anyone care to confirm alternate Group size? Now we're got 44 and 49, and H& & H8.... My care does have two holes for the battery clamp, one for the original size battery and one for...? Would like to know what fits. Thanks |
Just installed mine yesterday--49. I have an 87.

Interstate Batteries shows your car as a MTP-49/H8, which is the huge one. When I replaced my battery last year, Interstate was showing the smaller battery (MTP-91) for my 81 911SC. My car always had the huge one, so I ended up with an MTP-49. I suspect I could have used the smaller one and use the alternate clip hole and it was also cheaper by about $50, but I opted for the larger battery. The larger battery is not too hard to install - you have to tip it slightly and wedge it under the stationary clip, then just screw in the other clip.

I just go with the good old Bosch full size battery. Yea it's a tank.
However, It's been very dependable and has plenty of power. You can start a tractor with it. A lot of cranking power. |
