MFI Air intake question

Has anyone ever R&R'd the air flapper mechanism on an early 911? The part number is 911 108 015 00 and is called a Regulator Housing. I think it was an emissions device added some time around '71. Anyway I mistakenly took mine apart rather than just removing it and now I am having trouble with a spring inside. I went to PET but could not find an exploded diagram.

This is it installed

BTW - do I need it?

It was an emissions device. That spring controlled flap is operated by heat. The flap is closed when engine/outside air is cold to allow intake to draw in warmer air from heat exchanger. Opened up as engine warmed up. Your engine will run just fine without it. As to how to repair it, can't help you there.

Thanks. There are actually two "flaps" and I am having trouble with the spring on the one that opens with heat. The other one open with throttle position.

It was a warmup device for emissions. Just take the whole assembly off and store if you ever need to show the car.
