Introducing my 1966 911 SWB

Hi all,

Just signed up after using Pelican for a while. I've recently managed to secure one of Magnus Walker's cars, and here it is - rare find in the UK.

The engine has been rebuilt with larger 2.2-type pistons and cylinders and combines Solex cams with Weber carburettors. ANDIAL did a lot of the work pre-Magnus owning it. Kevin at Andial built the gearbox. Dieter sourced and fitted the front vented brakes and got the engine tuned. The engine and heads were done by a Swiss German gentleman who used to do Ferrari F1 heads back in the 60′s. He used to build various 911 race motors in the nineties and when he was done with this engine he closed up shop and went to work for Cosworth USA building Champ/Indy motors.

There is a taller fifth gear for longer journeys. The car retains the original matching numbers engine and gearbox cases and both could be returned to their original configuration without much difficulty – but this car is for driving, not looking at in a garage. There is a short shifter on the gearchange and later vented-type discs at the front as well as Minilite wheels all round. It had black Fuchs on before Magnus bought it, but I like the Minilites, so they will stay.

Since landing on our shores it has had the wiring looked at, service, new steering wheel (vintage Momo), rain covers for the carbs, new wipers and headlights converting to UK spec. Sailed through its MOT. What's it like to drive? Fabulous, just fabulous.

Now I'm trying to find my dream car to complete the garage - a 1992/3 Carrera RS in black or silver.

Thanks! Weather tomorrow is due to be sunny - first time in a few weeks. Very tempted to drive her in to London as I'm going to see the Singer 911 which is being showcased in the UK for the first time... I'm still looking for any excuse to drive her, as I'm sure you can appreciate!

Thanks very much... Always liked the car when I saw it on forums such as this one. When a reputable Classic Porsche Racer here in the UK had brought it over I went for it straight away. Just waiting on the weather to improve so I can take it out!

What a beauty! Let me know if you roadtrip it through Southern France: I'll be happy to show you nice roads around Carcassonne.

Where in London is the Singer being showcased?

TIA,
Ben.

Hi Ben, it was at an art gallery in Shoreditch last night. Car looks great. Attention to detail and materials used are mind blowing. They also had a 1973 911 2.8 RSR on display too - which was beautiful.

Here are some pictures - sorry for the quality, they were just from my iPhone.

The RSR stole the show for me though. And the owner started it up! In such a confined space, the noise was incredible.
