So a couple of more shots of the front end about a month ago during Christmas break...

A little epoxy primer to start
http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1360004454.jpg

Then a little playing with a shutz gun...probably the most fun you have making it look like something really fast;)

http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1360004555.jpg

Then I got serious and tried my hand with paint again...

I'm pretty happy with the outcome for never having done anything like this.

You may have noticed my little Christmas present in the back ground..A Max Jax mid rise lift. A good Pelican buddy (Haycait) found it used (in spectacular new shape) and passed this over to me. One of those items you really don't need but you really really want it. Even though I have the trim height for a full height lift the timing and namely the price was right. Thanks again Don.

So of course now that it's so easy to get underneath and I'm pretty good at removing undercoating and playing with the shutz gun...

http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1360005973.jpg

And with the lift putting on the suspension couldn't be easier...

Impressive. Inspirational really. Thanks for your post.

May I ask what you are using for a shop compressor? CFM @ 90psi? CFM @ 40 psi? Tank size?

monovich 02-04-2013 12:10 PM

This is terrific. The only problem is that you are so "aw shucks" that I think I can just run out to the garage and do this myself.

I wish I had something bigger...I have a little 3 gal. tank home depot special...enough to get me 4osec at 90psi. So for the schutzing I borrowed a slightly larger compressor so i could run 70psi a little longer and for the painting I borrowed a good HVLP paint gun. I would not attempt any real painting but that's going to be farmed out anyway.

gjmascoli 02-04-2013 02:41 PM

Is there a thread on shop equipment so I don't highjack this one?

Holy smoke! I can't believe you're getting that done with something that small. I am thinking I need to get something that runs 240V with a 60 gallon tank and handles 10-12 CFM at 90psi in order to do real painting. The other need is for blsting, but I think U can get away with lower CFMs than you need for paint.

So to finish up the back posts and get to where I am today...

I have the great luck of having a fellow Pelican deciding to hang his own shingle out and has started his own automotive body/repair shop 20min away from me.
For those of you that know Don (Haycait911) he knows his early cars and I think he has an unwritten rule that he must have a minimum of 4 older Porsches at any given time:D. He's produced some great vehicles of his own and I'm lucky to have his expertise close by and now looking at finishing my P-car.

So from here I decided to tear down a little more and let a real pro give it the finishing touches. The idea is to go down to a bare metal paint and of course find all the little problem areas that will show itself. Maybe do a few custom touches and then repaint.

What a great thread.

Josh D 02-05-2013 05:45 AM

Bravo! You've really done that car justice.

Sway Bar 08-09-2013 08:59 AM

Wow, 5 plus months have gone by...is anybody interested in seeing the final product?

The last bit work was finished a few weeks ago (still have some small tasks to do) but as of today it's in for a wheel alignment. It is surprising how long assembly and finishing takes. I can take some pride in that besides Don doing the professional body work/paint I have done every other little item.

Yes please.

It's only 10am and I really don't feel like doing too much work on a Friday so here are a couple of transitional shots of Don's handiwork. I have to say it's magical watching any professional weave their craft especially those that take great pride in their work. Don's attention to detail was superb and many times I would claim it looks good or good enough and yet it wasn't right for him...thanks Don.

Doesn't look to bad from the surface but of course once you start digging

http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1376068067.jpg

Below is prime example of his finishing...no matter how we aligned/moved/shimmed the door he was not happy with the door gap...so a little relief cut and stitch to make it to his liking.

Do you honestly think that a view of a shape under a tarp is going to suffice at this time?

Bear with me...I was gonna drag this out for a few days but need to give a few shots of Don's handy work...think of it as foreplay:D
