Time for New Timing Chains?
In the process of getting the chain housings off and need some help evaluating these chains. Engine has 99K miles, 1987 Carrera, doesn't look like it's ever been opened. I'm doing a top-end (http://forums.pelicanparts.com/porsche-911-technical-forum/729856-87-drop-top-drop-n-top-end.html)
What say you all re: the life-span of these timing chains - time for new ones? I'm not sure what fully-extended tensioners look like, so I've no real good frame of reference... Thanks in advance for any learned opinions, GKhttp://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1360074003.jpg |
i wouldn't worry about it. looks to be plenty of space between the top of the left arm and the housing and both tensioners are about the same, extension-wise.

Thanks for the quick reply, that's good to know. BTW - your crowbar picture from an earlier post saved me lots of time getting my cams out...

crowbar?

Well, sort-of. Maybe there's a more Porschey name for it...

That o-ring that seals the flange against the housing has a pretty firm fit, and the gasket that seals the flange to the cam tower probably had a little adhesive on it. |
Ladies slipper.
