Help identify missing sway bar parts
Opened another box today to install reinforced sway bar mounts,
(the stripped chassis I bought came with boxes of parts). Nothing matches. (I'm not at the shop and am working remotely off of pictures) I have the wevo mounts to weld to the chassis. 1) I'm not sure if the bracket that the bar goes through is correct or just missing a bushing (notice gap between bar and bracket). 2)Do I have a total mismatch since the bolts don't line up? I'm not sure who makes these or what I am looking at. I'd appreciate any advice Thanks. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1360259660.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1360259670.jpg |
My search-fu shows that looks closest to a Smart Racing products rear bar (thread here):
http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploads/SwayBar3.jpg Looks like either a nylon or delrin bushing is missing from the pillow block. However, since the holes don't line up, there's a possibility that you have some sort of universal swaybar - something like a Speedway Engineering bar. Not sure though. Do you have the arms? |
Thanks!
I have the arms, and they do look like that. Next time I am at the shop I will see if they have any markings on them but they do have that shape and the holes so you may be right. The gold bracket is still puzzling with its bolt arrangement, but the insert you pointed out does make sense. |
AHA!
An old picture form when I was looking at the car 2 years ago http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1360266037.jpg |
pre-'78 sway bars are Type 1 from the factory, where '78 and up are Type 2.
WEVO (for example) ARB consoles are for use with Type 2 swaybars. From Pelican's entry in the catalog: Quote:

There is a blue insert called a Nyliner Plus bearing that goes in the mount and then the bar slides though. That is definitely the Smart Racing Products rear sway bar kit.
The brass looking part is the rear bearing mount. SRP sold an early mount and a late mount, presumably with the different hole spacing. I have the install manual and catalog if you want a copy. |
Definitely Smart Racing sway bar. They sell the mount you need to match up with the later style mount/spacing. Need to call Jerry Woods, TRG, or another Smart Racing distributor (OG Racing sells the sway bars).

Thanks guys
I wasted about three hours searching the pelican catalog, the forums and google before I posted this question. The nearest I got was a dead end smart racing place holder page. I should have asked first. This forum is a great resource with members like each of you |
I received the parts and installed the sway bar
New question: Where should the rest drop links connect to using a smart bar? I saw a thread about it but can't find it now Thanks in advance |
You many need the install instructions. I bet you could get them from Jerry Woods Enterprises or by PMing the guy who said he's send you the manual a few posts back.

Seems to me people were creating custom mount to rotate the bar up for more clearance though
