Motor Out Pics and Couple Q's
Hello,
Pulled the motor this weekend to fix two problems: 1) Clutch Pivot bolt (911 Trans) broke and rolled around like a roulette ball inside the bell housing. If you look at the bell housing pic, you will see an area at the lower right hand side that was rubbed raw by the remains of the pivot bolt during those last few seconds of running. Two questions on the clutch.... does anyone offer a titanium or stainless steel pivot bolt to prevent these kinds of failures? Any recommendations on the most reliable source for the best pivot bolts? Second, if you look at the pic of the clutch disc, you can see that the wear is isolated to the outer 1/3 or so of the clutch disc. Both sides of the disc appear this way, and the pressure plate looks fairly new. (I have had two mechanics supposedly replace the pressure plate within the last four years, but I seriously doubt if one of them did anything at all). The flywheel looks a little bit burned, but know signs of rivet scoring or cracking. 2) The other work will be un-doing the "repair" that a mechanic performed on the valves in the number two cylinder. I have low compression and suspect a poorly repaired valve. My question is would you recommend pulling all three heads along with the cam housing, or pull the cam housing separately and just remove the number two head? Also, should I replace some head studs while I am in there? I have not verified that I have any broken studs, and I do not know what the motor was built with. Any advice is always appreciated. Thanks, JA '73 RS Spec 2.7 MFI ![]() ![]() ![]()

I'm certainly no expert, but having my clutch apart very recently, here's what it looks like to me:
The center of your disc looks a little wet and the outer edge of the disc looks wet too. You may be leaking oil from your flywheel seal or your main shaft seal. I think a small leak here can cause big problems. Sorry - I don't knwo about the rest of your questions. I think I'd be pretty hot at your "mechanic" if I were you.
