The Golden Era for Early 911 Buyers?
This eBay ad got me thinking about 'original-owner early 911's'.
![]() The average age of someone buying a brand new 911 probably wasn't much different than today - although I would guess slightly younger (35-40?). So these guys are now in their 60's and 70's. The original owner I bought mine from was in his 60's and sold because, "I just want to simplfy my life". In other words, he had become tired of the maintenance, the storage issues, etc. I wonder how many original-owner early cars are out there, lying in wait?! It's an exciting prospect for somebody like me who will be in the market for these cars over the next 10 years! -- Curt |

Love that picture! My first 911 in 1972 was a '66 with that color and same steel wheels. It had a 4 speed and webers that no one could keep balanced.

It's a beauty! Judging by the pics only, this car is much more impressive than the '73 S Targa on the other post, seems to be stuck on $12, 500 or so with , what 9 hours to go? This T rocks, IMHO...and Curt, your thoughts on people wanting to simplify as they age? I'm pushing 60 now, and yeah...I've thought about it. Not yet tho..not yet.

There's one problem with you Paul - you know what your car's worth!!!!

I had also noticed that Tangerine "T", what a cream-puff. It is a very lightly-optioned car, (most had "S" package w/ fuchs, deco trim, etc.), only option is 5-speed. Can you imagine what an "S" in identical condition would be worth?? Holy smokes, early "T"s are the bargain of the century.

Curt,
I'm guessing you have seen this beauty. I'm no early years specialist, but this looks almost too good to be true.....right down to the N Lauda name etched into each panel of glass! Is it the real deal??

Tony, the link no longer works on the Carrera. Guess this means the car has sold? Oh well, I sure don't mind looking at the T again. My 3rd Porsche was a '70 T. I liked it. Many fond memories...

My bad - this one is not truncated
more pics at http://www.ofoto.com/BrowsePhotos.jsp?UV=968096536191_43093246403&US=0&collid=50534246403 Quote: "This is an extremely fast and tight European Carrera that two years ago in Germany was prepared for stock class racing. The Euro ’74 Carreras are quite different from the American ’74 Carreras, mostly because of the Euro car’s engine, which is the same as the ’73 Carrera RS mechanically fuel injected powerplant (type 911/83). While in Europe, this car competed in four races and placed in the top three each time, and has not been raced in the U.S. For race preparation, the car was lowered and received a complete alignment and corner balance, track tires, FIA-approved removable roll cage (the cage is also illustrated and approved in the car’s Wagenpass), electrical cut-off handle, front and rear tow hooks, and race seat and 5-point harness. The car could be converted back to stock street use with less than a day’s work. Overall, this is an extremely fast and well-mannered car that would be dominant on the track and equally fun as a street car. It has never been wrecked or damaged, there is no rust, and it has always been meticulously maintained. Its previous owner is the owner of a top Porsche restoration and race-prep shop in Germany who also races Porsches competitively in Europe. " The more I look at this, the more tempted I am. Somebody buy this thing ......quickly!

I think that 74 was being sold by Rick Cabell. Interesting history to say the least!

Now that's a nice car. Great condition visually - check out the seats. Someone posted that early bench seats were fairly easy to find - not in this original of condition. Note the rounded cardboard cover over the fuse box - in my experience these only survive on very well-cared-for cars.

BUMP! Really guys, now that the questionable '73 S Targa went for twelve seven? To me, this is a much more interesting auction...a condition thing....

How do you think this compares to the Hershey '71T that Curt posted?

Well, I saw the Hershey car in person. Original paint, a spotless engine bay and 34K miles. This eBay car is almost certainly resprayed, the engine bay needs cleaning/detailing, and 84K miles. Does that add up to a difference between $26,000 and $9,000? Probably not. Without actually seeing the eBay car it's tough to say. Personally, I like the eBay car better - the minimalist look with the steel wheels, non-S options, etc. is very cool. -- Curt
Oh yeah, I'll bet the eBay car sells in the $14K range - and probably worth it. |

I wonder what's up with the rear windows on the T. There's definitely been some Photo shop work done on a couple of the photos. Follow the curb. Where you should see curb, there's grass visible through the window.
Might be nothing, but people who Photoshop their eBay pics frighten me. Photoshop work is also visible in the shot where the car is facing the other way. ![]() Last edited by LeeH; 06-30-2002 at 08:28 PM.. |

My guess on the Photoshop work is blocking "For Sale" signs with the phone number.
I spotted this car last week and have been watching it. If I didn't have two 72' Ts already I would buy this car off Ebay. It looks that good. To me the T trim and steel wheels add so much to the attraction of this car. It shows the owner had respect for it the way it was and took care of it. I think this car has Nostatics' name on it. He already said on another post he likes Tangerine. Let's chip in and buy him a plane ticket. Bobby |

Went and took another look at the ad. The Photoshop work does cover some signs in the windows. You can see them in other pictures from the reverse inside.
I also noticed that the hinges are black for the front and rear hoods. This was something they did on cars before 1970. In 70' they are the same color as the body. Then I noticed from the VIN that this is a Karmann Coupe. That probably accounts for the black hinges. The more I look at this car I want it. It puts my two 72's to shame. I also noticed that this car has Webers as opposed to the Zenith that were stock in 70'. (Some 71' T's came with Webers.) Could this be because it was a Karmann Coupe? Or maybe just a mod by the PO. You can tell that the rear window is original. The residue is still left on it from the 2.2 motor sticker that was on it. I swear if I didn't own two P-cars already I would snatch this cream puff up. Someone stop me before I do a bad thing. Bobby |

Someone stop me before I do a bad thing.
LOL. I think there's more than a few of us trying really hard to justify another 911 right now! Me to myself: "hmmm, although my plan has been an S coupe to go with the Targa, come to think of it I really NEED a bare-bones T coupe to sorta balance everything out and it's only $10K and I could put the wife's van out in the driveway temporarily and ........ " Stop me! -- Curt BTW: good detective work! |

I agree with an earlier post...nostatic should find a good Boston PPI place...then perhaps get himself a one way ticket to Boston, and DRIVE his new car home!
