What would be better a 1978 row engine or a 1983 us engine what engine should i choose?

Power wise they aren't to far from each other. The '83 US will have a flatter torque curve due to higher compression and smaller intake ports/runners. The '78 RoW will feel stronger up top, and in my opinion, will have more tuning potential due to larger port heads and simplier CIS.

If it were me and condition was the same, I would choose the '78 RoW motor.

What are the differences emisions components or? Row or us 79 or 83 what is more wanted

You need to provide more info. What are the specifics of the engines? Miles, condition, etc? What do you plan to do with one of them?

There are a bunch of differences in these two motors and those differences have been discussed in other threads, if you wanted to search a little bit. Different compression, different injection systems, differences in the exhaust, etc.

What I have is a 79porsche sc just want a correct motor row has unknown mileage us is unknown also.I dont know much just that mine was a us motor originally I just want to get it on the road

the ROW is better.

The '78 ROW would match up to your '79 better. The '83 CIS had lambda control (O2 sensor and some other differences in fuel lines and wiring) which the '78 motor and your '79 chassis didn't have.

However, the '78 ROW motor has a different fuel and ignition curve than your '79 and might make getting through emmissions a challange. Would you be using the CIS originally from your car, or the one that comes with the motor?

The ROW motor would be an easier install. That said, if you have to meet emissions in your area, you might be better off with a US motor from 1978 or 1979. Starting in 1980, lots of things changed and you'd need to do a fair bit of electrical wiring to install a US motor from 1980 or later.

I'd be having a good look at the condition of the engines you are considering. Or, I'd have a good shop do that for you. You don't want to buy an engine with a problem, or one that is worn out.

I believe the '78 ROW would be less hassle.

These are core motors only looks like things are different on the 78 maybe missing some parts or just totally different with less components I only see cis no blower motor or big 3zones inch hoses

It would really be hard for anyone to give proper advice on which motor to go for without performing some inspection (i.e. compression test, leak down, removing valve covers to look for broken studs)

Are you planning to rebuild either motor, or just drop it in and try to get it running? Can you get pictures?

BTW, the blower motor is for heat and not essential to the engine running.

We can help, but we need to know what your intent is.

Eventually rebuilding it I just ffound a 80 row also running condition what do you think

Thats the motor that I have (930/09). It is the "optimized" version of the earlier '78-'79 ROW 3.0. Basically they tweeked the fuel and ignition curve to gain an additional 8 hp (188). Great motor. The '81 ROW 3.0 (930/10) is even better with 9.8:1 compression and 204 hp.

This motor would also work just fine in your '79. But again, it comes down to condition.

I have a 83 930/10 engine I want to sell. 70,000 original miles & 6000 since studs,rings & valve guides,rails & carrera tensioners. All the work was done in 2010 by me.

Thanks guys just bought a ROW 930/03 1979 complete runner from a reputable. Porsche repair shop in denver eisenbuds why not stay period correct quess the value will be good after all said and done.
