A Mint '89
But with perhaps too little use? Under 1,000 miles on a 13 year old car?

That car is sweet! I don't know anything about turbo prices, is the price reasonable?

That is a nice car at a nice price, but like you said, definitely too little use. Anyway, whoever buys it will probably just let it sit anyway. Probably the only 89 turbo under 1000 miles, something to brag to your friends about.

$92,000???? That seems like a lot of money. I thought that my 89 Carrera booked for likr 45K new. Did the turbos really command a 50K premium, or am I wrong in my assumption about the original price on my car?

Um, if you look closely at that "sticker", it is not a munroney, (factory window sticker), $92,000 is the "Alan Johnson price" for that car when new. Actual sticker price was probably about ~$70G. Still a lot of money.
Having sold them when new, white was definitely the weakest color from a demand standpoint, (sorry white car people), this car probably never sold when new. My guess is that it was the last unsold 930 in San Diego, dealer hung on to it thinking that someone would pay big $$ for last one, then they had a LONG sit. If it sells now for a sane price, someone gets a good deal. BTW, it is not a "new" car as ad states. It's used; the main reason people pay more for actual new cars, (especially a Porsche) is the WARANTY, which is obviously non-existent on this under-used, dried-out car. My usual .02. ![]() |

I remember reading (in People magazine, I'm ashamed to say) that Nicolas Cage had a non-turbo 89 with similar mileage that was stolen and driven into a lake in Minnesota, and the article stated that the car was worth $100K. Seemed expensive to me.

MOnkeyboy, Cage's car WAS (I assume that's the correct phrase now) an '89 Speedster. The press, reporting as "worth" $100,000 did it's usual job of inflating things. Some people may place a value on who previously owned a car...I'm not one of them.

This might seem crazy, but this pic from the Ebay add looks like it's in England to me:
BTW, I'm English and have been working/living in the US a bit now. Doesn't look like Boston to me - I know quite a few bits of Boston too. Also, the phone number on the flatbed truck doesn't look US either - looks like a UK one. Weird..... |

Seems a pitty to let a car sit like that and have less than 1,000 miles on it.
Oh well, to each their own...

Question: what do you do with this car? It's not a rare model. Looks like a run-of-the-mill Turbo with ultra-low mileage. So what? If this was purchased with the intent to store it for 13 years as some kind of money-making investment, this guy's in for a rude awakening. -- Curt
BTW: the current bid of $36,000 is not the price. The auction has a reserve. I'll bet the reserve is $50k or more! Last edited by cegerer; 07-03-2002 at 04:03 AM.. |

Although maybe not considered "rare", the '89s were kinda special since they were the only year of that body style with the G50... and last of that breed.

![]() if the cars been stored properly it could be as new. fluids and stuff would just need to be changed. the engine may have been periodically run.... can't see the point personally (unless you got a tons of cash and collect cars) but it would be worth keeping for investment imho. you'd have to wait along time for the returns (a decade or two) but its pretty unique. probably be worth £30k on the market in the uk, around the same as a new boxter. i know which i'd rather have! ![]() ![]() ![]()
