Goo Of Choice

When I took delivery of my “new” 1970 E a few months ago, I heard an occasional “click” in the engine compartment. It was definitely a new noise to my ears after recently owning a ’82 SC and then a ’73 914 2.0. I initially thought it to be some mechanical relay. However after reading the archives on MFI, and backfiring in particular, I began to wonder if I might actually have a speed switch / transducer problem because the only time I would hear it was at idle. Ottos had done the PPI on the car so I called to see if they had a used one in stock. Otto would not sell me a refurbished unit until I did a test. When the test showed that I did need a new unit, he shipped it out to me the same day.

So, many thanks to those that posted answers to MFI questions over the last couple of years. This led me to figure out the problem myself instead of finding an expensive MFI wrench.

Now that the new unit is on the way, I am planning on reinforcing it as per Warren’s recommendation. I was wondering who else has reinforced their transducer and what their “goo” of choice was. I have none of the tools to repair the old one, but I think I can handle his recommendation.
