HI-Torque Starter IMI 101 VS 101-N

Does anyone know whether the IMI 101 will work on the early 911s, like the one our host sells which is the 101-N. The 101-N just has a little bit more power but the 101 is much cheaper in price. Any feedback is appericated. Thanks!

Why don't you just ask PP?

Reusing an old thread ...

I am about to order the IMI 101 but was wondering if I shouldn't buy a 101-N instead? 101 is localy available, 101-N not sure ...

I'm not sure if I need the 1,5Hp starter (101-N) or if the 0,9Hp (101) is sufficient. I suppose both of them are more powerful than the original one ...

My only reason to replace the starter is to solve my hot start issues.

Thanks!

My high compression 3.6L race engine starts up just fine with the plain IMI 101.

this was discussed awhile back (see link below)

- I talked to IMI about the variants - the 101-N is the one you want, made specifically to fit ALL Porsches for which it carries applicability in the parts book

a lower compression (7.5-8.5:1) early engine would not require 1.5 HP

other folks have had mixed results with the alternatives, sometimes finding "spacing" issues

Lots of valuable info with additional links here:

starter ring failure twice in 3 weeks. HELP!!

The 101 and 101-N both fit Porsches the same.

My race engine is over 12:1 compression and the plain 101 turns the engine over fine.

I am not saying one should not buy the 101-N. I am saying the 101 is a reasonable option.
