brakes feel iffy?

I rebuilt my back calipers, replaced the master cylinder and replaced the existing front brake hoses with braided stainless steel, and the brakes still don't feel like they are all there.

In my 93 Escort I can lock up the wheels pretty easy. In the 911, they don't really seem to lock up. They stop the car without drama. A car pulled in front of me today and I'm certain the Escort would've stopped more quickly than the 911 did. It stopped, it just didn't feel like the Hand of God™ stopping power I would expect.

I will be rebleeding them just to make sure. I've only driven this 911, so speaking subjectively, should the brakes be grabbing harder? Am I just spoiled by power brakes?

Bill,

I suspect the problem is excessive clearance between pads and caliper pistons ...

Check these threads for a solution to eliminate the clearance:

Brake Bleeding

Okay thanks!

I have a new word to bandy about in casual conversation:
"hysteresis"

Once I implement the fix I should be fine!

Garage
Whne I rebuilt mine, I had to bleed them a LONG time to get all the air out.

Then I had to bleed them again a few days later, and got more air out.

Been fine ever since, over a year.

Tom
