Airteck cone filter

I thought this would be a very easy to do, but I must have installed something wrong (no install instructions included). With the old air box removed and the new snorkel/cone filter piece installed, the cone is resting on the mounting stud of the intake. I thought the filter wouldn't rest on anything. Seems like a hole would develop from the heat or rubbing where the stud mounts (removed the old rubber stud). There's also a black metal bracket that came with the kit. I have no idea where that goes.

Anyone have a picture of their install.

86 , 3.2 engine

JJ 911 SC had the same exact problem as you, and he fabricated a cool little bracket to solve the issue you are describing. I couldn't find the thread, so hopefully JJ will post a pic soon.

airtek

I have one as well..had to fiddle with the install and it just barely clears intake and hinge. Can't remember exactly what I did but I know it was where the filter sits on the plastic housing..

Has anyone compared the filter size to the stock air box filter? Only reason I ask is because a friend put a cheapo Spectre cone filter on his Carrera and I thought it was sort of small. So I did a quick calculation of the surface area of each filter and found that his cone filter was MUCH smaller than the std. Mahle/Mann filter in the original airbox.

You can get the same sound change as the cone filter by cutting the face off the air box lid BTW.

I'm only putting this on to give me a little more room in the engine bay. The engine is going into my 914-6. I could grind down where the old stud mounted in the intake, but I would think this isn't necessary. The kit does include a small bracket, but I can't figure out what it's for or where it goes.

Just a "FWIW",.......:)

After having seen plenty of hydro-locked 914/6 engines from water ingestion over many years, I would not use a cone air filter for that installation. Personally, I'd be using the OEM airbox and add some 2" holes to the cover for airflow & sound.

It will rip the filter. I use a piece of aluminium, shape it and cover it with some heat shrink. I got 2 bracket that came with mine, not use on a 3.2

Thanks, JJ. I'll have to look at the bracket that came with it to see if I can make it work. Or just make one myself.
