Plastic Coat For Bumper Guards?

Does anyone know if there is any good plastic coating that would adhere well with the rubber bumper guards? It is commonly done with tools to add grip. I've heard of people trying this with good results, and I think that glossier plastic would look better than the easy-oxidizing rubber surface. Anyone know if this would work?
