Does this look right? Space between front hub dust seal and spindle spacer ring
Guys,
I am trying to install the front rotors with newly rebuilt hub. Once every thing is tight and snug, there is still some space between the hub dust seal and the spindle spacer ring. Here is a pic http://i820.photobucket.com/albums/z...psdca28ae8.jpg When I rebuilt the hubs, Inner race would not go all the way into the hub. Then I purchased another pair of hub that have never been rebuilt, the inner race looked the same. Here is another picture. Am I screwed? http://i820.photobucket.com/albums/z...T/IMG_1326.jpg |
see if the caliper fits on, the sleeve on the spindle is just for the dust seal to rub on, does the hub not go on all the way? does the inner bearing hit the race?

James,
Thanks! The hub feels like it all the way in and it doesn't wobble at all. I put one caliper on, looks like it fits just fine with pads in place. In fact, if the hub goes in any further, the brakes will no longer fit. http://i820.photobucket.com/albums/z...ps0d02a804.jpg http://i820.photobucket.com/albums/z...pse0bd5530.jpg http://i820.photobucket.com/albums/z...ps59698c60.jpg |
install the dust seal and i think your ok

Thanks James. One thing that really baffles me is the inner race was not seated all the way to the seat as you can see in the picture. Craig_D could get his all the way in, but the 2 pair of hubs I have all leave some gap.

crud, junk, shavings, etc, over the years it happens but when you tighten down the nut it might seat, did you press them in or use a punch. you can tap them in pretty hard with a hammer to seat firmly, won't harm the race, i use a 2 1/2 lb. hammer for some good force, nice turbo brake!!

Thanks!
I used one of those race drivers to drove them in. I heated the hub at about 350f for 30 mins, then drove them in with the driver. from the sound of it, they are fully seated. You know the tone changes when things fully seated. now with caliper fitted, everything makes sense and in spec. If the race indeed went all the way in on the inner side, then the hub will sit flush with the spindle spacer which will also bring the rotor in too far to fit properly |
sounds good! now hurry, summer coming!!!

haha. yea. 3-4 more weeks maybe. We are still in the rain forest for another 2 months at least.

the inner race was proper seated. I guess between the years, there was some change to the hub ? and some earlier cars had the race all the way to the stop.
If the calipers line up fine with the rotors, then you are good to go. |
Thanks for the reply. Everything lines up and feels solid. Test drive tomorrow.
