Mandatory Pic

Did my first engine drop today.
I was surprised by two things:
1. How smoothly it went (I'd like to think I'm starting to learn a thing or two but I was probably just lucky).
2. How manly I felt afterward.

The scissor lift really makes the whole process pretty easy. I did the drop by myself and almost felt like I was cheating.

Excellent... and nice shirt too.

I thought everyone in Colorado drank Coors? :D

jpearson 02-16-2013 06:27 PM

I thought German beer was a mandatory component of the pic.

kugelfischer 02-16-2013 07:41 PM

Well done (drop and beer selection)!

Frame it, put it up in the garage, or living room if your wife is that cool.

Congrats! I myself have not taken this plunge yet. However, I need to replace my clutch and I am working up the courage to do it! LOL

I still have to do my first engine drop. However, it will be easy for me to get the German beer ;)

Remember that scene in Castaway when Tom Hanks finally succeeds in making fire? That's how I felt.
And yes, using a lift is cheating... ;-)

Congrats!

Congrats, what are you going to do with it now that it's out? Rebuild, clutch, etc?

Guardsred911 02-17-2013 11:54 AM

Nice Beer Choice!! Nice work!

and it's good office talk... "so, what did you do for the weekend".... "took the engine out of the 911".....

jpearson 02-17-2013 02:26 PM

Al - Unfortunately the engine is going to be sitting for 1.5 - 2 years until I start the rebuild.
The entire car is stripped except the rear end. So I will finish disassembly over the next month. Then I am going to build a rotisserie and start the body restoration. The goal is to have the body work done and everything painted by the end of 2013. It seems like a long time but the way I move it could be a tough goal.

You were. Do it again, without the scissor lift. Friggin newbie.:D

Jim Richards 02-17-2013 06:12 PM

Using a scissors lift means you're bright. What brand lift is it?

Great engine bay pic, BTW. SmileWavy

Nickshu 02-17-2013 06:31 PM

Love the pic....nice work. Might have to get a scissor lift.

jpearson 02-17-2013 07:00 PM

Jim - It's the high lift one from Harbor Freight. I got it on sale + an online coupon. It takes a little faith to drop that kind of money at HF but so far it has been completely perfect.
