I'm running my 930-10 on 91 (all we can get in Az) and an octane boost. The motor is new to me and fresh. It runs much cooler than my 930-16 did....98 degrees yesterday with a long drive at 70-75 mph and the temp just got to the lower white line (194 deg)....I have fattened up the CO some but not too much as I live at 2600 ft....runs very well in the heat.

No pinging so far

I do not get pinging even running on bargain 91 octane premium fuel. My oil temp usually does not get above the low 200F range. However, I have not done an extended desert run in the AZ or NV 95F plus dry heat lately. Low humidity air does not conduct heat very well for air/oil cooling. MC2W The SC Euro motors were not really designed for the desert southwest of deep southern high humidity heat index so make adjustments with SSI's & oil coolers. Also make sure that your wrench adjusts the timing as required and does not use US "HOT" spark plugs that promote pre-detonation in the 9:8 Euro SC. W3CC (B9 NGK) is lot different from a W5D (B6/7 NGK). If you want to run low octane fuel without detonation, look up an old Popular Mechanics article about "Re-Tuning for Regular". Why buy a ROW SC to run low octane fuel?

UPDATE: The W3CC & WR4CC are non-projected tips so they did not work well plug & play in 2 different 9.8 cars. An experiment that confirms the project tip works well. Looking at NGK BPR8ES that another 930/10 owner is running. Thanks Reiver. The NGK BPR8ES is a little colder than 911 workhorse Bosch W5D. NGK numbers are colder as the number gets larger (opposite of Bosch number system).

I put a Carrera oil rad/block off/ and switched fan in place when I had the 930-16, I operate the fan as deleted the thermostat on that.
Am running cooler plugs...today is near 100 and still ran right at 200 degrees uphill to the house.
I use ACES IV as an octane boost and upper cylinder lube.

I run 100LL avgas in mine.

FYI,
Today I ran about 80 miles in 107 degree ambient temp. Mostly 70 +/- mph but some stoplight town driving too. I've a newly rebuilt 930-10 on my 83Sc with a factory Carrera oil rad/block off/fan.
I got into a casual 'race' with a ricer and spent some time at 5k plus rpm's goosing it.
The temp never got to 205 on the gauge, mostly at 194/200 or there abouts. CO is 3 on the mix. I use an octane boost.
No issues running this motor in the heat...it is cool running if set up properly and Mr. Freeman did that on the build and tune.
I do believe a really clean, lack of oil contamination and dirt, engine makes a big difference.

Just a follow up....after 6 years of running the 930-10 in the Azheat with 91 octane all is good.
I've put 42k miles on it (I'm slacking up).
I do use ACES 4 gas additive (no affiliation) as a top end lubricant and octane booster and do drive the livin piss out of it.
Did a cylinder check with a borescope last valve lash setting and all cylinders look great, no scoring, can still see the factory finish on the cylinder walls and very little carbon on piston heads or valves.
42k miles ago I started out with using about 8 oz of oil every 3k miles.....my last oil change....8 oz of oil used. I have no oil leaks at all.
Besides the very proper top end rebuild Howard did I suspect a lot has to do with adding the Carrera oil cooler....engine runs just right 190-210 max....the ACES4....and having an onboard wide band CO gauge (where the clock was) to keep the AFR just right ( a little fat).
Six years of leak downs have been consistent.

So, with the proper care a Euro SC can do very well with our gas...and high temps/high compression.

Now that the SC weighs in at 2300 it is a really fun driver.

You guys 91 = us guys 95 RON.

I've been driving my SC engine ROW 930/10 with cams and SSIs for ten years on our 95 RON and it runs sweetly.

Good to hear "my almost moda" is still running fine with you Pat. I've been limping along with your 200k+ mile distributor as a "loaner" in my SC for quite a while now. The Tooth picked up a couple of distributor rebuild kits but we've both been busy with other things. Can't seem to get him fired up about going halves on a LSA Ercoupe lately....but I'm trying!

He hasn't rebuilt that 930-16 yet...I had 230k on it when we swapped out and it still ran well but did like to consume oil.

I have a little CIS issue going on now I have not figured out....not major...but recently developed. The car is getting a full paint job presently then I'll sort that out.
Can be hard to start after sitting overnight...once warmed up runs perfectly/starts perfectly....have to throw some chicken bones at the CIS gods...

BTW, glad I beat you to this moda...

Hey guys I’m fairly new to the 930-10, thanks for all the info. Is there another thread/ forum that is more widely used. For us 930-10 guys?
