Wiring Harness

Does anyone have a secret trick to pushing these wire plugs into their mounting holes? I have them all labeled, I know where they go, but it can get tough to push them into their holes. Is there a special method, tool, or rubber lubricate I should use?

Thanks for your help.

I lube them up and shove them in. Be firm, yet gentle, but be firm. Work your way around the hole, it has taken a couple tries for me to get it in.

But seriously, that is how I have gotten the grommets in.

A little silicone grease and they go in easier.

I've used diluted soapy water on grommets that don't have exposed electrical connections. Always try to start in at an angle and get the flange started over and into the other side.

It also helps if you have some tool that will allow you to push on the flange without tearing or cutting into the rubber. I have an old screwdriver with a broken tip. I smoothed out the edges and now it's good only for opening paint cans and pressing in grommets. A cheap take-out chop-stick will allow you to press on the flange and not mar anything as well.

I have done dozens....get some fairly warm water, put the connector head in it and let the rubber soften. It pushes right in. The internal connections are pretty well potted by the rubber so the water is not an issue.

Thanks all... your suggestions inspired me to borrow the wife's hair dryer to "warm" the plug fitting, applied a little rubber grease and finessed it into the mounting. All is well. On with the rest of this rebuild.

I used my heat gun set on low, getting them warm was the trick. Didn't need to use any type of lubricant. But be careful, too much heat can permanently disfigure them.

You can lube them slightly...and then wind a strong thread around the indentation that fits through the hole...and use the thread to pull the lip through.
Sort of how we get the window in when installing a windsheild.
