acts like it's out of gas

78SC

Starts up every time (hot or cold).
Runs great until constant speed for a while.
Runs great if just acc. or decel. or idle.
Drive for a while at constant speed and it acts like it's out of gas.
Continues to act like it's out of gas until off or idle for about 10 minutes. Then runs great again.

Have replace fuel pump, fuel check valve, and fuel filter.

Planning to check cat. conv. and do a pressure test.

Anyone know what's wrong???

Drain some fuel into a clear glass container out of the supply hose to the fuel pump ... and check for rust.

If any rust is present ... remove fuel tank and have it steam cleaned and sealed.

Draining gas from line that connects tank to fuel pump into a clear glass - no rust.

If it was rust, the problem would probably occur during acceleration, right?

You've probably thought of these items, but...

Have you checked the warm control pressure and the system pressure?

Also, I know there is a switch that turns off the fuel pump if the air flow plate is in the "at rest or off" position.

Let me know what you find. I'm putting a '78 CIS on my '83 engine mounted to a '75 tranny sitting in my '71 car and its been FUN.
